THE DIRTY HANDS: Alex Pollard and Clare Stephenson

CCA, Glasgow, 31st January - 21st March

The Dirty Hands brings together two distinct bodies of work by Alex Pollard and Clare Stephenson. The galleries at the CCA are jointly conceived by the artists as a theatrical space of presentation, with paintings, collages and floor-based objects directing a sensibility of both period flamboyance and aestheticised degradation.

During the exhibition, Stephenson will also curate the CCA's regular Dance on Screen event on 26 February 2009 at 7pm. Tickets are £4 / £2.50 concession.

Maribel López Gallery, 24th January - 24th March

An exhibition of new works by Scottish artists Kevin Hutcheson (Glasgow, 1971) and Gary Rough (Glasgow, 1972). The exhibition is an investigation about the way their approaches to the real and the intimate can be fruitfully juxtaposed.

Kunsthaus Baselland, Basel, 15th January - 22nd March

The title of the exhibition, which includes collages, sculptures and installations, is "Filer à l'anglaise" - a French expression equivalent to the English "to take French leave", i.e. to slip away without saying thanks or goodbye. Danke's special collage technique relates aptly to the concept of disappearance. The resulting compositions often have a surreal touch - the fall of a dress, fragments of hairstyles and accessories peeking out from between the severed edges, and new patterns of shape and colour emerging from the freshly-cut lines. Only the titles point to what has disappeared - taking maybe French (or English) leave.
