Dear All,
Please see forwarded note about a forthcoming lecture at Napier below. Might be worth making students aware of this, as I know a good few in G Des and Illustration are interested in zine work. I’m told attendance is completely open but needs to be RSVP’d as space is limited and filling up fast. Might be worth scoping him out for a possible workshop or guest lecture in college at some point?
Best wishes,
Jonny

Subject: Professorial Lecture at Edinburgh Napier University
Dear all,
For those who received a blank email just now (for which apologies)...
You are cordially invited to Chris Atton's Professorial
Lecture on 9 March 2009 from 6.30 to 8.30pm in the Lindsay Stewart
Lecture Theatre, Craiglockhart Campus, Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh.
The title of the lecture is Fanzines: Popular Culture and Creativity
This lecture will explore the rich history of the fanzine from its
beginnings in science fiction to the diversity of subjects we find
today. It will focus on fanzines devoted to popular music and
highlight the contributions made by amateur writers to the
development of critical writing about music from the 1960s, through
punk to the present. The value of the fanzine lies not only in it
being a platform for the passion and expertise of individual fans;
in its pages we can also see the origins of popular music journalism.
Chris Atton is Professor of Media and Culture in the School of Arts
and Creative Industries, Edinburgh Napier University.
Please RSVP to events@napier.ac.uk. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first
come, first served basis.
We look forward to seeing you there.
