Collective Gallery Press Release - Roll it to me

Press Release

Tuesday 10 March 2009

Roll it to me
14 March  - 9 May 2009

Roll it to me is a new group exhibition at the Collective Gallery featuring video work by Pil and Galia Kollectiv (London), Team PingPong (Berlin) and Tim Etchells (Sheffield).

The Collective Gallery celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and will be reflecting upon the meaning of a 'collective'. The Collective Gallery invited the artists in Roll it to me to examine what it is to work as (or part of) an artists' collective in the 21st Century.

Pil and Galia Kollectiv will be in the main two gallery spaces showing a video triptych. The third part of the triptych, The Future Is Now, is co-commissioned by the Collective Gallery and completes The Future Trilogy.

Team PingPong will be in The Guest Room and show Le PingPong d'Amour parts 1 and 2.

Tim Etchells is the art director of theatre company Forced Entertainment. He will show Erasure and So Small in the gallery reception area

Notes to editor

Pil and Galia Kollectiv are London based artists, writers and curators working in collaboration. Their artwork is primarily film, video and performance based and explores utopian discourses of the twentieth century.

Team PingPong: The films of the German art collective TeamPingPong explore art’s ability to achieve political and aesthetic ideals. TeamPingPong self-reflexively satirise both the impracticality of idealist aspirations and the futility of realist conformism. "The films, entitled Le PingPong d'Amour take the form of an episodic mini-series in which members of the collective play a group of friends experimenting with living, loving and working communally."

Tim Etchells had a base in performance and works across the mediums of visual art and fiction. He describes his practice as "
concerned with live-ness and presence, with the unfolding of events in time and place."
