Margaret Mellis: eca's own 'art history'

thanks

Showing at the Cameo, a new film about the artist Margaret Mellis, the last surviving member of the St Ives group who pioneered abstraction in Cornwall from the 1930s to the 1950s.

Mellis was very friendly with Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth and other members of this celebrated group which included Wilhelmina Barns-Graham who was, like Margaret, a former student of eca. All staff and students would be welcome at the screening on 29 October at 7.00 pm and ticket details are below.

The film might be of particular interest to students who would like to know something about eca's connections with an art movement that enjoys a world wide reputation. Margaret Mellis is now very frail and won't be present at the screening but people who know her will be there and will be answering questions.
