GI Volunteer Advert

Glasgow international Festival seeks volunteers.
The Gi are looking for enthusiastic, positive, friendly and energetic
volunteers to be involved in welcoming local, national and
international artists, guests and visitors to Glasgow international
Festival 2008.This is a great opportunity to see some of the best of
contemporary visual arts in Glasgow, improve your CV, meet new people
and be part of the exciting Festival events. If you are successful,
you will be invited for a short, informal interview lasting approx. 20
minutes on either Tues 25th or Wed 26th March between 12 - 8pm. You
will then be invited to a training session on either Tues 1st April 3
- 5pm or Thurs 3rd April 6 - 8pm. It is obligatory to attend one of
these sessions if going forward to volunteer with Gi. We can provide
travel expenses within Glasgow, Lunch and refreshments, Festival

Volunteer Opportunities.......


International Curator' Research Visit Tour Assistant
15 influential international curators will be visiting Scotland and
the Gi as part of a research visit organised by Gi and the Scottish
Arts Council. The role will include;
Helping prepare for the visit, including making up information packs,
confirming bookings, and studio visits; assisting with the delivery of
the visit including helping to co-ordinate studio visits, gallery
visits, receptions and other arrangements; helping with the tour
within Glasgow and around Scotland.This exciting opportunity would
suit someone with an interest in international museums and exhibiting
projects and/or arts organisation. This is a great opportunity to find
out more about the roles of curators and is an excellent learning and
shadowing opportunity. You should be friendly and enthusiastic and
most importantly have excellent local knowledge of Glasgow city centre
and Glasgow's galleries including its artist-run projects and studios.
The dates you need to be available are Fri 4th then Mon 7th until Tues
15th April. The role includes daytime and some evening work. Meals and
refreshments will be included on the days of the tour.

Sponsorship Volunteers
You would be involved in assisting the Sponsorship Manager before and
during the Festival. Duties would include helping to undertake
visitors surveys; distributing maps, brochures and other information
to partner bars, restaurants and hotels; delivering welcome packs to
venues; collating feedback information from sponsors; helping in the
office. You should be positive, energetic and willing to get involved
in a very busy, high-pressured environment. You would need to be
available between 7th - 27th April, daytime including weekdays and
weekends, and some evenings. Shifts would be a minimum of 4 hours.

Marketing Volunteers
You would be involved in assisting the Marketing Manager with running
duties in the initial set up and at the end of the Festival. This
could mean distributing maps, brochures and other information to
Festival venues, or helping to take down signage and collecting
brochures after the Festival finishes. You should be positive,
energetic and willing to get involved in a very busy, high-pressured
environment. You should be available during the day between 7th until
11th April; 4 half days between 11th - 27th April; and then from
28th until 30th April.

Reception and Hospitality Volunteers
This opportunity involves helping to set up and look after the Gi
welcome desk at the CCA. This is an important role as you will be the
welcome face of Gi, so you should be friendly, approachable and
willing to be proactive in speaking to the public about the Gi and
about Glasgow. You will need to have excellent local knowledge. You
may also be asked to be involved in other duties, such as running
duties.
You should be available for a minimum of 6 shifts between 10th until
27th April. Shifts will be a minimum of 4 hours per shift and run
between 10am - 8pm including weekends.

Photographers and Viral Video Volunteers
We are looking for photographers and video artists to be involved in
documenting the Gi. You would be attending various events, gigs and
talks during the Festival in order to take photos and video footage.
You would be responsible for ensuring that these are uploaded onto
bebo (www.bebo.com/gifestival), youtube and myspace
(http://www.myspace.com/gifestival). Please include information on
your application form regarding your experience in this field. If
invited along to an interview, please bring along evidence or a
portfolio of previous work. Shifts will be mainly evening and
weekends, although there may be some daytime volunteering, depending
on the event.

Press/ PR Volunteer
You would be volunteering alongside the Festival press team at the
CCA. You would be involved in running duties; creating and
maintaining a welcoming space in the press room; updating the Gi
facebook and bebo sites; making up information packs; logging and
filing press cuttings and photos; office duties such as making phone
calls, filing, photocopying, inputting data. We are looking for
someone who is positive, energetic and willing to get involved in a
very busy, high-pressured environment. You need to have an extremely
high level of accuracy in your written work and be able work on your
own initiative. The Gi Press Team would be willing to deliver an
information session to the successful volunteers on print press and
new media after the Festival. You should be available between 1st -
27th April, from 1pm - 7pm, including weekends, to be alternated
between both volunteers.

Artist Assistant Volunteer
You would be involved in assisting with get-ins, helping to prepare
exhibition spaces, running duties and then assisting to dismantle
exhibitions. You should be enthusiastic, energetic, approachable and
flexible in your approach. You should be studying and arts-related
degree or have experience in the field. You should be available as
much as possible from 4th - 11th April and then 28th - 30th April from
9am - 9pm. Shifts will be a minimum of 4 hours.


Artist Liaison Volunteer
We are looking for volunteers to assist with delivering artist packs
to venues, making up ID laminates and other office duties, collating
useful local information and other related tasks. You need to have
good local knowledge and to be friendly, approachable and
enthusiastic.
You will also be asked to cover some shifts on the welcome desk at the
CCA where necessary. You should be available as much as possible from
7th - 27th April, daytime including weekdays and weekends, and some
evenings. Shifts would be a minimum of 4 hours.


Team Gi office Volunteer/ Volunteer Team Leader
We are looking for a volunteer to be a team leader to the volunteer
team and to assist in the Gi office. This will involve looking after
the volunteer/ staff room, ensuring that the provisions are
stocked-up; helping out with basic office duties; coordinating
resources and welfare of the volunteers; assisting with volunteer
scheduling and organising cover; general support for the volunteer
team You should be good natured, friendly and approachable, willing to
work in a busy high-pressured environment and to work on your own
initiative. You should be available from 1st - 30th April, during the
day from 9am until 6pm, including weekdays, weekends and some
evenings. Shifts would be a minimum of 4 hours.

Invigilator Volunteers
You will be invigilating at the Gi exhibitions and may also be
involved in helping to host some of the tours that the Festival is
offering round the various venues. This is an important role as you
will be the welcome face of Gi at the Festival venue, so you should be
friendly, approachable and willing to be proactive in speaking to the
public about the Gi and about Glasgow. You will need to have good
local knowledge.
You should be available for a minimum of 6 shifts between 11th until
27th April, during the day from 10am until 6pm, including weekdays and
weekends. Shifts would be a minimum of 4 hours.
