Part of the VAGA Starting Out programme, these events are aimed at early career arts professionals as well as anyone considering a career in the visual arts and galleries sector. Attendees will be able to put their questions to senior curators and gallery staff, examine some of the roles and career routes in the gallery sector, and debate the challenges for the future arts workforce.
Event 1: Behind the Scenes: Career Routes in the Visual Arts, London, Friday 24 June - 12.30 – 18.00 Start at the Serpentine Gallery & finish at the Lisson Gallery
The Serpentine Gallery is one of London's best-loved galleries for modern and contemporary art. Its Exhibition, Architecture, Education and Public Programmes attract up to 800,000 visitors a year. Over the past forty years the Lisson Gallery has supported succeeding generations of artists, each with a radical and distinctive approach to the artistic possibilities of their times. This visit will also allow the opportunity to see the current show by artist Ai Weiwei.

Event 2: Behind the Scenes: Career Routes in the Visual Arts, Manchester, 1st July - 12.30 – 18.00 Start at Cornerhouse & finish at Castlefield Gallery
Cornerhouse is Manchester's international centre for contemporary visual arts and film and have 3 floors of contemporary art galleries alongside 3 screens showing the best of independent cinema. Castlefield Gallery is a gallery and resource for contemporary visual artists and their work and was founded in 1984 by the Manchester Artists Studio Association (MASA).
