Visual Artist and Craft Maker Awards: Forth Valley
Deadline: Monday 28 September 2009, 5pm
Clackmannanshire, Falkirk and Stirling Councils work in partnership with the Scottish Arts Council to bring this unique scheme of grants to visual artists and craft makers in the Forth Valley area. Forth Valley Awards Scheme makes grants of £200 - £1000 to individuals to support their creative and professional development. The Awards are intended to provide artists and makers in the Forth Valley area with the opportunity to develop their work in new ways, take risks and explore new ideas. This could include: Preparing for an exhibition out with your local area; Research / development; Attendance at an exhibition, conference or training course; Equipment can be considered if it will allow new development

Visual Art & Craft Development Awards: Dumfries & Galloway
Upcoming Deadlines: 2 October 2009 & 4 January 2010
Dumfries and Galloway Council has entered into a partnership with the Scottish Arts Council to deliver a Visual Artist Award and a Craft Makers Award for artists and makers living in the Dumfries and Galloway region. The aim of the Visual Artist Award is to assist individual artists with the costs of researching, creating and presenting new work and the aim of the Craft Makers Award is to assist makers towards the cost of creating new work or developing current work.

Scottish Arts Council: Creative and Professional Development Award
Deadline: Monday 5 October 2009
Bursaries of £1,500, £3,000 and £5,000 are available to artists to help with costs associated with their creative and professional development, for example materials, research, production of new work, a residency, costs relating to an exhibition or publication etc. This fund is also for curators to apply for creative and professional development costs. The maximum funding curators can apply for is £3,000.

Scottish Arts Council Visual Artists' Awards of £15,000
Deadline: Monday 5 October 2009
Up to 5 awards of £15,000 are available to artists to provide a period of time for exploration and experimentation and may supplement or replace existing income. An award is an investment in the development of future work based upon the quality and ambition of previous and current practice.

Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen: Artists' Film and Video Fund
Deadline: Monday 5 October 2009
This fund is run jointly by the Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen to support the best innovative and experimental work by visual artists working in film and video. Two bursaries of £20,000 are available. Please note: the film or video must be the artwork.

Call for Artists: 'Open Glasgow'
Deadline for receipt of submissions: Friday 6 November 2009
Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art is pleased to announce the new, open submission initiative for 2010 called 'Open Glasgow'. 'Open Glasgow' is funded by the Scottish Arts Council, and aims to discover ambitious and imaginative artists' projects, conceived specifically for the city during Festival time. A fund of £17,000 is available to the successful project(s), to include fees and technical support. Proposals are sought from individual artists for a project to take place in Glasgow during the Festival in 2010. The project can take any form, from a formal exhibition to an ephemeral event or production.
Eligibility: Artists should be currently based in or have been educated in Scotland and should have at least 3 years professional experience. Students in full-time education are not eligible to apply.

Call For Artists, Designers and Artisans: Fiskars Artist in Residence, Finland

Fiskars Village is situated approximately 90 km west of Helsinki, in the municipality of Raseborg. The Cooperative of Artisans, Designers and Artists in Fiskars has been active from 1996, and today the community has 113 members, representing over 20 different arts, design and crafts professions. The Fiskars Artist Residency was founded in early 2006. Professional overseas (i.e. non-Finnish-resident) craftspeople, artisans, designers and artists may apply for the residency. Cultural journalists, writers, curators and scientists may also be considered.

Call for Disabled Contemporary Artist: Artist in Residence, Dundee

Sense Scotland is looking for a disabled contemporary visual artist for residency in Dundee. You will develop your own work and practice collaboratively with disabled artists and participants as part of a Scottish Arts Council supported programme. Sense Scotland's Arts and Wellbeing service ensures a creative and supportive environment for people with complex communication support needs to participate in the arts.

Public Art Opportunity - Aberdeenshire Council

Aberdeenshire Council wishes to appoint an experienced public artist whose practise includes a strong element of community engagement. The artist is to have a role in linking the local community and the new multi-million pound Fraserburgh Community Centre and Pool development. This project is in three phases and will cover a period that could extend for 18 months. From the information gathered from the community the artist will work with the Aberdeenshire Council site Fraserburgh Design team to create a strong public art plan and create works for the site - combining landscape plans and art features that will create an inspirational environment that reflects Fraserburgh as a place and the community who will utilise the swimming pool and community learning facilities. The plan could include external and internal areas of the site.

Gallery Internship at Edinburgh Printmakers

Edinburgh Printmakers offers excellent opportunities throughout the year to gain valuable knowledge, skills and experience supporting the management of the gallery and open access studio. This internship programme is ideal for recent arts graduates, or for those with relevant experience. Training includes practical work experience and the development of skills appropriate to the co-ordination and running of an open access artists' resource and gallery. Edinburgh Printmakers are currently recruiting a six-month voluntary internship post (2 days a week, one of these days will be a Saturday). Interviews will be held on Wednesday 14 October.

Call to Artists - RSA 183rd Annual Exhibition 2009
Open Submission Hand In Days: 23 & 24 October 2009 (5 October for Electronic Media)
The RSA are calling for artists to submit work for the RSA 183rd Annual Exhibition which will take place from 14 November to 20 December 2009 at the prestigious Royal Scottish Academy building, Edinburgh. With over £4,000 worth of prizes and opportunities awarded, the RSA Annual Exhibition is a highlight of the exhibiting year for artists, architects and members of the public. Showcasing around 350 works from established and emerging artists, the exhibition present a comprehensive cross section of contemporary art in Scotland and includes painting, sculpture, filmmaking, photography, printmaking, architecture and installation.

The Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival

Africa in Motion: Edinburgh African Film Festival Programme Launch

The programme for Africa in Motion 2009 has just been launched and tickets are on sale! The festival is taking place from 22 October to 1 November at Filmhouse Cinema and other venues. Now in its fourth edition, Africa in Motion (AiM) has grown into a flourishing and exhilarating festival of cultural diversity and cinematic brilliance. Providing a platform to challenge, engage with and explore issues surrounding the African continent and its films, the festival includes a range of classic and contemporary films - long, short, fiction and documentary. AiM09 includes screenings of 60 films from 22 African countries including over 20 UK premieres.

Cove Park Drawing Masterclass

Cove Park Drawing Masterclass is a professionally tutored residential course, exploring approaches to drawing by developing pattern and decorative motifs. The course is led by Edinburgh-based artist Frances Priest, and participants will be provided with their own self-catering accommodation, a welcome meal, and the use of large, bright studios located on Cove Park's outstanding 50-acre site on the west coast of Scotland.

Sierra Metro presents new work by artist Ashley Nieuwenhuizen. With an interest in the boundaries and analogies commonly drawn between animal and man, Nieuwenhuizen's practice investigates the realms of shamanistic and arcane ritual and behaviour. Using video, sculpture, drawing and photography to address the domestic, sacred, repulsive and seductive aspects of the animal industries, this new body of work generates an unsettling psychological parallel.

market gallery, in collaboration with Scottish Sculpture Workshop, is proud to present Studio Project 19 with Dutch artist, Iede Reckman. Iede completed five weeks of research at the Scottish Sculpture Workshop after which he continued with a further five week residency in market gallery's studio/exhibition spaces in Dennistoun. This exhibition assembles and culminates his findings from both residencies and his time spent in Scotland.
