Inverleith House Gallery Talk
Richard Demarco and Sandy Moffat discuss the work of Mary MacIver
Sunday 1st March, 2pm, Inverleith House, Lower Ground Floor Gallery
Richard Demarco and Sandy Moffat will be discussing the work of Mary MacIver. Richard Demarco C.B.E. is an artist, gallerist and promoter of the visual and performing arts. Alexander (Sandy) Moffat O.B.E. is an artist and former head of painting at Glasgow School of Art. The visionary paintings of Mary MacIver, influenced by events in her life and a keen knowledge of poetry, myth and legend have long been admired by fellow artists. The current exhibition at Inverleith House of thirteen works on paper made by MacIver in her studio in Edinburgh last year takes its title from the book “Pilgrim Souls”, which Mary wrote about life with her late husband, the poet Hector MacIver. Mary began painting in 1981 after retirement and, as she approaches her 90th year, continues to paint “the spiritual side of life and the symbolic” with an extraordinary vitality.
