Commission for Sporting Sculptures
Deadline: Monday 12 January 2009, 12pm
Musselburgh and Inveresk Community Council have been awarded grant aid to commission an Artist/Designer to design and create two sculptures to promote the sport of horse racing and golf. The sculptures are to be sited at entrances to the east and west of the town - one sculpture on Levenhall roundabout and one on Newhailes roundabout (subject to local authority approval). Interested Artists/ Designers are invited to submit designs and full costing for the sculptures. Artists/Designers are also requested to submit a CV, artist statement, images of work and details of relevant past projects.

Creative and Professional Development Awards
Deadline: Monday 26 January 2009 for projects taking place after 3 April 2009
The Scottish Arts Council is seeking applications from visual artists for the Creative and Professional Development Awards. The awards are to assist individual artists with the costs of creating and presenting work, for example research, production of new work, materials or exhibition costs, as well as professional development. There are three fixed levels of bursaries available: £1,500, £3,000, £5,000. Funding is also available to assist curators with professional development costs relating to curatorial practice. The maximum funding curators can apply for is £3,000.

Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh

The Visual Arts Awards: Edinburgh (formerly known as the Edinburgh Visual Arts and Crafts Award Scheme) scheme offers awards to individual artists living and/or working in Edinburgh towards costs in creating new work or developing current work. Awards up to a maximum value of £1,000 are available.

Internship Opportunities at Deveron Arts

Deveron Arts is offering internships in curatorship and arts development in socially engaged / collaborative arts. They are seeking motivated individuals with an interest in working with artists in residence in the community context. Experience offered in all forms of curatorial development, arts administration and event organisation. Internships are for 3 months, full time and are paid £50 per week plus accommodation. Creative Initiatives – Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop Professional Development Programme
Deadline: Saturday 31 January 2009
Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop (ESW) is seeking proposals for their Creative Initiatives Programme - designed to assist an artist(s), through financial, technical and practical support, to develop and realise a significant project which will be included in ESW’s public programme. The selected projects must demonstrate a high artistic standard and reflect an exciting and contemporary approach to visual arts practice. There will be two Creative Initiatives each with a fee of £2,500 including materials. There is also a further £150 each for documentation. In addition to this the artist(s) will have free use of the workshop and use of the project space, along with technical and administrative support

The Aberdeen Visual Artists Awards Scheme
Deadline: Friday 27 February 2009
The Aberdeen Visual Artists Awards Scheme is open to Aberdeen based artists of all ages, at any stage in their career, working in any visual media. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to your work and to advancing your skills base and ideas. You must live within the Aberdeen City Council boundary or work, maintain a studio space, or be a member of and regularly use a visual arts facility within Aberdeen.

Calls for Works
Silent Charity Auction – Calls for Submission
Deadline: 23 January 2009
01 February – 20 March 2009
Submissions are being sought for a silent art auction to be held at Montgomery’s Café, Glasgow on behalf of Yorkhill Children’s Foundation. The work will be exhibited through February and March and a closing party will be held to announce the successful bids at the end of March. To cover costs, a £5 per piece entry fee is required and a 40% commission on the sale of the work, which will be donated to Yorkhill Children’s Foundation. A reserve bid price up to £150 may be placed on the work.

David Cohen – Talk and Demonstration at the Pitclay Gallery

Ceramics in the Park – Project Ability Outreach Project

The intergenerational art project, working with Carelink and North Glasgow Carers, involves the creation of small scale ceramic pieces to be placed in Springburn Park, semi hidden in people’s favourite places.

Building your own artist’s website – A Workshop by Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop

The Artist and Graphic Designer, Tommy Grace, will run a workshop over five evenings taking you through the stages of building your own website from start to finish. The workshop is intended as a means of getting your portfolio online whilst learning about html, css and Adobe Dreamweaver.

Set Off Set at Arts Complex and Forest Cafe

‘Set Off Set’ is an exhibition spanning two venues in Edinburgh with works by London based artists Ed Atkins, Leah Lovett, Rebecca Kressley and Richard Whitby. The artists will use sculpture, video and performance to investigate the spatial and temporal attributes of the set, which may be interpreted theatrically or cinematically.

Parallel Lives 2 – ‘The Tower of Leith’ at Out of the Blue Drill Hall

‘Parallel lives 2’ - an exhibition of a new work - the ‘Tower of Leith’ created by artist Gavin Lockhart and people from Leith. ‘Parallel Lives 2’ is an outreach initiative from the National Galleries of Scotland which asked people in Leith to investigate and update Marcel Broodthaers’ surreal Visual Tower (1966) – part of the NGS collection. The new ‘Tower of Leith’ is created from 100 MP4 players showing videos produced by members of the community. The exhibition also features work from the projects at WHALE and North Edinburgh Arts.

‘Somebodyelse’ is a solo exhibition of photographic portraits by Graham Fagen exploring cultural identity at The Changing Room, Stirling. The exhibition includes new work and work exhibited for the first time in Scotland. The portraits in Somebodyelse combine real and imagined figures in order to explore the country’s contemporary and historic culture.
